It’s also probably a bonus too. If the US takes them down like this it’s a huge sign that they’re far overstepping their bounds. Not that we really need more evidence of that, but it doesn’t hurt.

Isn’t the .us TLD controlled by the government of the United States? Meaning they have the power to revoke access if they want to?
They would need a court order, and to get that they would need to prove harm. So not impossible but it would take a while.
